“Guardian of Avalon” Painting Process
Just a little slideshow looking at some of the process “Guardian of Avalon” went through on its way to being finished. I use Gamblin Artist Oil Colors and cradled wood panels.
Avalon is an ancient place of Arthurian legend first written about in the year 1136 within the “Historia Regum Britanniae.” It is described as a magical place, shrouded in ancient mists where, in some versions of the legends, King Arthur’s Excalibur was made.
Morgan le Fay is a powerful goddess, witch, fairy- and leader of the nine magical sisters, depicted in Arthurian legend as being the protector of King Arthur. The legends and tales of both Morgan and Avalon are ancient and nearly endless in their variation. Sometimes known as the Lady of the Lake (although not anywhere close to all versions of the Arthurian legends agree on this), In some tellings, Morgan is also tied to the magical sword Excalibur.
